Have you ever wanted to write your own song, or wondered how the songs you hear on the radio get created? Here's your chance to explore songwriting in a friendly, non-technical way with an award-winning songwriter and instructor. You don’t need to play an instrument or read music (many fine songwriters don’t), you just the need the desire to create your own song. We'll look at classic songs from pop, rock, country and Broadway while learning their elements and structure, then try creating our own songs. So if you have a poem that needs music, a melody that needs words, or a notebook full of ideas, this class is for you! We'll learn exercises to free our imaginations and develop our ideas into songs, and over the course of six weeks develop each element necessary for your own completed song. You will also learn about the technology now available to songwriters, and the role of songwriters in the music business. The course will meet at Broadmeadow School for six Tuesday evenings Oct. 15-Nov. 19. Registration is at http://www.needham.k12.ma.us/c...

Songwriting instructor Terry Kitchen's songs have won the USA and Mid-Atlantic song contests (and been runner-up in the John Lennon song contest) and have appeared in numerous films, in addition to his own and others' recordings. He has released ten CDs since the 1990s, including his latest, Rubies in the Dust, which reached #23 on the national Folk-DJ chart. More on Terry at http://www.terrykitchen.com/
