Event Details

Needham Free Public Library, 1139 Highland Ave, Needham, MA, 02494

Marie Bostwick, a New York Times and USA TODAY best-selling author of more than twenty works of contemporary and historical fiction, will speak about her new novel, The Book Club for Troublesome Women, at the Needham Free Public Library on Monday April 27th at 7PM.

This historical fiction novel tells the story of four suburban housewives in 1960s Virginia who form a secret book club, inspired by Betty Freidan’s The Feminine Mystique, leading to their feminist awakening and personal transformations as they navigate societal expectations and find sisterhood.

After its release by Harper Collins Muse in April 2025, the novel received a starred review from Library Journal, and was included on numerous lists of the year’s most anticipated books, including Book Bub’s “Best Historical Fiction of 2025.” In addition to making the USA Today and Southern independent Booksellers Alliance bestseller lists, The Book Club for Troublesome Women was a finalist for the Goodreads Reader’s Choice Awards for Best Historical Fiction of 2025 and won in that same category at SheReads.com.

The public is invited to this free program presented by the Friends of the Needham Public Library and The Book Shop of Needham in the library’s Community Room at 1139 Highland Avenue, Needham, from 7-8:30 PM, Monday, April 27. A question-and answer period will follow the presentation. The author will autograph and sell her book.
