Cargo Theft, 18 Phones Stolen From A Store: Needham Police Log

The following is from the Needham Police Log. Arrests and charges mentioned don't imply conviction.

October 30

2:20 p.m. - An officer responded to a Highland Circle business for a report of possible cargo theft. The company, based out of Needham, was shipping candy bars via tractor trailer. The delivery never arrived at its destination in Bolingbrook Illinois. The matter is under investigation.

8:20 a.m. - A West Street resident reported that her identity was stolen. It was used to make purchases with her American Express card. American Express was notified and she will not be held responsible for the charges.

6:55 a.m. - An officer made a motor vehicle stop for failure to signal. The operator, a 40-year-old Waltham man, was cited and will be summoned to Dedham District Court for unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

8:00 a.m. - An officer was dispatched to a Chestnut Street business for a report of illegal dumping. The building owner stated he did not know who left numerous commercial lighting in and around his dumpster. The neighboring tenant stated the items will be removed.

10:00 a.m. - Officers responded to FedEx on 3rd Avenue for a larceny. Juan Almonte, 37, of Boston, was arrested and charged with larceny from a building for taking 18 various cell phones.

1:15 p.m. - An officer was on foot in Needham Square looking for distracted drivers and observed an operator stopped at the red light at Great Plain Ave/Highland Ave. She was holding the phone below eye level and manipulating the device with her hands for approximately 30-60 seconds. As a result of the ensuing traffic stop, a 33-year-Winthrop woman will be summonsed to court for unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and texting while driving.
