Charlie Baker’s hometown of Needham voted unanimously for his nomination as Republican candidate for Governor of Massachusetts in next November’s general election. The Republican State Convention was held at Boston University’s Agganis Arena in Boston on Saturday March 22. The day started with a “Women for Charlie” breakfast event which featured a speech from Mary Ann Tocio, President & COO, Bright Horizons and worked closely with Charlie during his tenure at Harvard Pilgrim Healthcare. The breakfast was attended by over 250 women. Thirty one delegates from Needham spent a full day listening to speeches from the candidates for state constitutional offices and party leaders before casting their votes for Charlie late in the afternoon. Mary Tibma – Chair of the Needham Republican Town Committee, Dave Blakelock, and Liz Kaponya were “Whips” for the Baker campaign. Our blaze orange caps were designed to be easily spotted for floor duties and coordinating efforts. One of the highlights of the day was when Charlie Baker visited the Norfolk – Suffolk / Needham delegates in the stands, along with local TV. The grand finale was when Needham’s own Charlie Baker gave his acceptance speech capped by an awesome red, white, and blue confetti drop!
