Christmas Services in Needham

Many Needham residents will be busy this holiday weekend spending time with loved ones, waiting for a visit from Santa Claus and celebrating the season with songs, scripture and pageants, so for today’s , we've compiled a list of services scheduled this weekend at local churches.

• Location: 800 Highland Ave.
• Holiday services: Carter Memorial’s Christmas Eve service will begin at 4:30 p.m. and will be geared toward families with younger children, with candlelight and singing. At 8:00 p.m., the church will hold its regular candlelight service with carols and communion. The Christmas Day service will begin at 10:30 a.m. and will be a more relaxed, casual gathering with words from the wisemen, innkeeper and shepherds.

• Location: 543 Greendale Ave.
• Holiday services: Christ Episcopal Church will hold a Christmas pageant and service on Christmas Eve at 4:00 p.m., a choral Christmas concert at 9:30 p.m. and a candlelight and choral service at 10:00 p.m. On Christmas Day, the church will hold a 9:00 a.m. service.

• Location: 1154 Great Plain Ave.
• Holiday services: The Congregational Church will host a Christmas pageant on Christmas Eve at 4:00 p.m., “a dramatic telling of the birth of Jesus featuring songs and anthems of the season and more than 100 costumed performers,” according to the church Web site. The candlelight service, with traditional readings, anthems and carols, will be held at 9:00 p.m. The Christmas Day service will begin at 10:00 a.m., and the program will include performances by the combined youth choirs.

• Location: 754 Greendale Ave.
• Holiday services: The church will hold its Christmas Eve service at 7:00 p.m. The one-hour service will feature carols, candlelight and scriptures. There will be no Sunday afternoon service; instead, the church will be joining Good Shepherd Christian Fellowship for a 9:30 a.m. worship service.

• Location: 858 Great Plain Ave.
• Holiday services: First Baptist Church in Needham will hold a candlelight Christmas Eve service at 7:00 p.m. and a worship service at 10:00 a.m. on Christmas Day.

• Location: 23 Dedham Ave.
• Holiday services: On Christmas Eve, First Parish will hold a multigenerational service, with harpist and Christmas folk music at 5:00 p.m., then a traditional Christmas Eve candlelight service with choir and harpist at 9:00 p.m. On Christmas Day, the church will have a multigenerational worship service at 10:30 a.m.

• Location: 754 Greendale Ave.
• Holiday services: Good Shepherd will host a Christmas Day service at 9:30 a.m.
  

• Location: 543 Greendale Ave.
• Holiday services: Grace Lutheran will hold their Joyously Wiggly children's service at 5:00 p.m. on Christmas Eve, and their regular service at 9:00 p.m.

• Location: 1458 Great Plain Ave.

• Location: Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall, Great Plain and Central avenues
• Holiday services: Redeemer’s Christmas Eve service will begin at 5:00 p.m. and include lessons and carols. The church will not be holding a Christmas Day service.

• Location: 1180 Greendale Ave.
• Holiday services: Christmas Eve Masses will be held at 4:00 p.m., 6:00 p.m. (with the youth choir and pageant) and 9:00 p.m. (with the adult choir concert, beginning at 8:30 p.m.). Christmas Day Masses will be held at 8:00 a.m., 9:45 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.

• Holiday services: Christmas Eve Masses will be held at 4:00 p.m., 7:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. Christmas Day Masses are scheduled for 8:00 a.m., 9:30 a.m., 11:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
