Chuck Fountain will discuss various aspects of the book Under the March Sun. It will also talk about his full and fascinating history of spring training from its beginnings at a shoe-string road trip to burn off calories to a billion dollar a year business. This event is an adult program.
Charles Fountain worked for more than a decade as a television and radio sportscaster in Boston and New York before joining the journalism faculty at Northeastern University in 1985. He has appeared frequently on the ESPN SportsCentury series, commenting on the myth and culture of American sport, and has appeared on NPR, and more than fifty television and radio stations nationwide. He is also the author of Another Man's Poison: The Life and Writing of Columnist George Frazier, called "a superb piece of work" by Publishers Weekly, and Sportswriter: The Life and Times of Grantland Rice, hailed by the Chicago Sun-Times as "one of the best newspaper biographies in recent years."
