The Needham 300 celebration attempts to touch every generation in town. The schools are busy planning a wide variety of activities for the town’s youth, including another Red Carpet event set for February 9 at 7:30 p.m. in the Needham High School auditorium. This concert will feature the world premiere of a new work for the Concert Band, composed just for our high school band in honor of the tercentennial. The work, by New England composer Roger Cichy, reflects the historical growth of the town.
In addition to the high school bands, Needham’s Community Band will begin the concert by performing three other significant works in honor of Needham’s heritage. The concert and commissioned work is funded in part via the New England Foundation for the Arts Meet the Composer program. Admission is free but seats may be reserved by calling 781-455-8088, ext 2440.
Needham 300 is a non-profit committee appointed by the selectmen and made up of Needham residents planning a year of festivities to celebrate the anniversary of Needham’s founding on November, 6, 1711.
