The songwriting and location recording workshop provides students the opportunity to learn more about the programs and services offered by the West End House.
On the first day of the workshop, a representative from the West End House will speak to students about the programming and services offered by the organization. Later on the first day, the songwriting students will break into groups, led by Plugged In teachers, and write songs based on their reactions to what they have learned about the West End House and/or on any subject of their choice. Students participating in the location recording workshop, held during the same time as the song-writing workshop, will learn from a professional sound engineer about the equipment and set up techniques used in live recording.

On the second day, a recording is made of the students performing their original songs. The location recording students will assist with the recording. A CD is created of these performances, and proceeds from the sale of the CD are donated to the West End House. Song-writing students also perform the original songs at the concert.
