First Parish in Needham presents a sonic collage of music from the earliest part of the 18th century, with special emphasis on vocal, choral, and chamber works that might have travelled across the ocean to the homes, meeting houses, and village concerts of early American settlements. The program, including music by Handel, Corelli, Purcell, Arne, and their contemporaries, will feature a select choir from First Parish and Boston-area choral singers, supported by an ensemble of period instrumentalists and professional early-music vocalists. This celebratory performance is being designed and led by Vivian Montgomery, award-winning harpsichordist, Director of Music at First Parish in Needham, and Baroque Performance faculty for the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. Featured performers will be soprano Shannon Cannavin, baroque flutist Na'ama Lion, baroque violinists Dana Maiben, Karina Fox, and Cynthia Freivogel, and baroque cellist Sarah Freiburg.
The concert is free of charge (donations accepted) and open to the public, a birthday gift to the community.
