Tobin Afterschool Volunteer Fair

Family Volunteer Day Provides Opportunities to Give Back to the Community

Needham - A Family Volunteer Fair designed to provide area families an opportunity to learn to participate in community service activities with their children will be held at Tobin Afterschool on Saturday, Nov. 13.

Families can design Thanksgiving Day greeting cards and tissue paper flower bouquets to cheer residents at Briarwood, make dog biscuits and cat toys for animals at The Buddy Dog Humane Society shelter, craft beautiful friendship bracelets for Handmade for Hospitals, create cards to wish well to children with cancer for Love Letters, donate used coats and clothing in support of Cradles to Crayons, and purchase snacks and pizza to support Children's Cancer Research, among other activities.

The Tobin School, which emphasizes a strong commitment to community service in its curriculum, won first place in a national competition sponsored by Disney Magazine in 2005 for their work in educating young children about the value and power of volunteerism.  Their annual Volunteer Fair, now in its fifth year, is just one in a number of activities that the School and other programs in The Tobin Family of Schools do each year to teach children how they can make a difference in the lives of others, both in their community and around the world.
