True North Boston Cultural Icons Series: John Singer Sargent

North Hill will present a lively look at John Singer Sargent, the American artist considered the leading portrait painter of his age, on April 24 from 10 a.m. to noon. The program will be held at The Coolidge Corner Theatre, 290 Harvard St. in Brookline.

The class will be led by Trevor Fairbrother, author of Sargent biography The Sensualist. Fairbrother offers a general introduction to Sargent’s art and his champions within Boston society, including Mrs. Jack (Isabella Stewart) Gardner.

The program is part of the True North Boston Cultural Icons Series, which takes a closer look at the people, institutions, art, architecture and history of the “City on the Hill.”
