True North Course: 'The South Asian Traditions'

On March 5, will present a course which reviews the lived experience and world views of major world religions of South Asian origin, including Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism.

Platt offers an overview of the origins and growth of these traditions in historical context and their development into worldwide movements. Attendees will explore the similarities and differences between these religious traditions and the vast diversity of people who observe each tradition.

Led by Katherine Platt, an Associate Professor of Cultural Anthropology at Babson College. She received her Ph.D. from the London School of Economics of the University of London. Among her courses at Babson are “Cultures of the Middle East,” “The  Anthropology of Food” and “World Religions in Everyday Life.” In the fall of 2011 she led a one month world religions course in India for Babson students.

This course is the first in North Hill’s World Religions Series, a survey of the history and impact of religious traditions across the world. It is open to all active adults in the Boston area.
