It’s Thursday, and the weekend is right around the corner. Patch has your back with a few fun things to do. Check our picks for the activities to hit and some places to explore. Here's what's happening in and around your town.

- Where/when: Park and Recreation Office, , 500 Dedham Ave.; Saturday, Oct. 15, 8:30-11:00 a.m.
- Why go: Help Needham get ready for its final 300th birthday events on Nov. 5 and 6 with a town-wide cleanup. Sign in between 8:30 and 9:15 a.m. at the Park and Recreation Office in the PSAB. You’ll get a cleanup location and trash bags and a few refreshments before being sent out to do some work. The cleanup will be held rain or shine, so dress appropriately.

- Why go: The public is invited to come learn more about Freemasonry at the Needham Masonic Building’s annual open house. Membership in the Massachusetts Freemasonry is open to men ages 18 and over, regardless of religion, and offers a range of opportunities for community service, personal improvement, leadership and fun.

- Why go: Got a tried and true apple pie recipe you feel is an award-winner? Put it to the test at Volante Farms’ annual Apple Pie Baking Contest. Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place, with every contestant receiving 10 percent off all purchases at the farm the day of the event.

- Why go: Every Saturday in October, Carter Memorial Church will host children's activities. While you're there, pick out a pumpkin or gourd at their Pumpkin Patch.
- Pricing: The activity is free. Pumpkins start at 50 cents; all proceeds support the church’s various missions.

- Why go: Enjoy Longwood Opera’s fall production of Puccini’s “La Bohème,” performed in English with full set and costumes.
