FY19 State Budget includes funding for Needham

State Representative Denise C. Garlick (D-Needham), along with Senator Michael Rush (D-Norfolk & Suffolk) and Senator Richard J. Ross (R- Norfolk, Bristol and Middlesex) is pleased to announce that the Town of Needham will receive $390,000 in the FY19 State Budget for safety improvements, senior transportation and Cutler Park.
“The support for Needham in the State Budget will help strengthen our community and give the town one more tool in the toolbox to provide safety,” said State Representative Denise C. Garlick. “Steps to improve pedestrian safety include education, enforcement, increased signage and traffic calming measures. I am hopeful that $200,000 in funding will add significant safety measures as part of the Town of Needham’s comprehensive plan.”
A $90,000 state investment will allow for the Needham Council on Aging to purchase a handicap accessible transport van for older adults. “The Town’s capacity to provide accessible transportation is integral to assist older adults stay active and maintain independence while staying connected to the community as they age,” said State Representative Denise C. Garlick. The transportation program picks up and drops off residents at their homes and a few of its destinations include grocery stores, pharmacies and the Needham’s Center at the Heights.

“I am pleased to have sponsored the senate amendment to the budget to provide funding for improvements to Cutler Park,” Said State Senator Mike Rush. “This funding, along with money for safety improvements and senior transportation, included in the budget delivers needed support to the Needham community.”
“I am pleased to see the Needham Council on Aging receive funding to improve their transportation efforts. This is a significant step in providing the elderly community of Needham with more freedom and provide relief to caretakers,” said Senator Richard Ross (R-Wrentham).

The Massachusetts Legislature voted on the final version of the state budget on July 18, 2018.The Governor has 10 days to review the budget and take action to either approve or veto the budget. The Governor may approve or veto the entire budget, veto or reduce specific line items, veto outside sections or submit changes as an amendment to the budget for further consideration by the Legislature.
