Golfers Wanted for Monday’s Ellie Fund Golf Tournament

Tournament offers BBQ, a silent auction and more with proceeds benefiting The Ellie Fund.

The Ellie Fund has built a reputation of helping cancer patients through some of their darkest hours, allowing them to better enjoy a few of life's greatest pleasures. For organizers of the Driving for a Cure Golf Tournament, it made perfect sense to create an event that not only raises funds for the Ellie Fund, but also encourages living life to the fullest by having fun on the links.

On Monday, July 19 The Ellie Fund, with sponsorship from Panera Bread, will host its fourth annual tournament at Stow Acres Country Club in Stowe, MA. Proceeds from the event go directly to the Fund and its programs and it's not too late for interested golfers to have a go at the course.

"We still have space for sign ups," said Catherine Howe, board member of The Ellie Fund.

Registration can be completed by contacting Katie at 617-600-3304. Fees are $125 per golfer or $500 per foursome. Included with registration are breakfast and lunch by Panera Bread, greens fees (with cart), a cocktail hour featuring Island Creek Oysters, dinner, a cash bar, and a silent auction, raffle and prizes.

If picking up a golf club is not your forte, there is still opportunity to participate in the event and help The Ellie Fund cause.

"Non-golfers are welcome to attend the event for a $50 donation to the Ellie Fund," said Howe, adding that the price includes access to the cocktail hour, as well as dinner and participation in the silent auction, raffle and prizes. Interested parties can contact 617-600-3304.

Established in 1995 in memory of Eleanor "Ellie" Popkin, The Ellie Fund consistently works to provide free services to cancer patients. These services include transportation, grocery shopping and childcare, among others, all of which benefit from events like the golf tournament.

"We work hand in hand with our volunteers, donors, sponsors and vendors to provide quality support services free of charge for the hundred of breast cancer patients and families who need our help," Julie Nations, director of The Ellie Fund, told Needham Patch earlier this year.
