Closures Around Exit 19 On Route 128 Set For This Weekend

Drivers are asked to remain aware when traveling through this area and are encouraged to seek alternate routes to reach their destinations.

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) has announced that beginning at 10 p.m. Friday and lasting through 5 a.m. Monday, there will be temporary on and off-ramp closures and local roadway lane closures in the area of exits 19A and 19B in Needham where Route 128/I-95 connects with Highland Avenue due to the ongoing Add-A-Lane project.

All travel lanes on I-95/Route 128 in this area will remain open during these operations and appropriate signage and police details will be present to guide traffic to the detour routes on local roadways.

The full list of travel impacts is as follows:

  • From 10 p.m. Friday though 5 a.m. Monday: The on-ramp connecting Highland Avenue westbound to Route 128/I-95 northbound will be closed. Drivers will be directed to a detour route that utilizes Central Avenue, Cedar Street, and Route 9 to access Route 128/I-95 northbound.
  • From 10 p.m. though 5:00 a.m., Monday: The Exit 19B off-ramp connecting Route 128/I-95 southbound to Highland Avenue westbound will be closed. Drivers will be directed to a detour route that utilizes Exit 19A and local roadways.
  • From 10 p.m. Friday through 6:00 a.m. Saturday: The off-ramp connecting Route 128/I-95 northbound to Highland Avenue westbound will be closed. Drivers will be directed to a detour route that utilizes Exit 20B and local roadways.
  • From 10 p.m. Friday through 6 a.m. Saturday: The on-ramp connecting Highland Avenue westbound and Route 128/I-95 southbound will be closed. Drivers will be directed to a detour route that utilizes Hunting Road and Kendrick Street to access Route 128/I-95 southbound.
  • From 10:00 p.m., Friday July 7, though 5:00 a.m., Monday, July 10: Highland Avenue will be reduced from two to one lane in each direction in this area.

Drivers are advised to remain aware when traveling through this area and are encouraged to seek alternate routes to reach their destinations. All operations are weather dependent, and in case of inclement weather, operations will shift to the following weekend
