Home Maintenance To Do's for the month of Marchy

Now that it is May and we can enjoy the outdoors, we are regretfully reminded of a few tasks to complete before the summer heat sets in.

The temperatures are mild, spring flowers are blooming, and the air is fresh. Now that we are enjoying the great outdoors, we are regretfully reminded of a few tasks to complete before the summer heat sets in. Don’t worry, these items are fairly easy to complete. Think of these as “target” areas and complete 1-2 each weekend to free up your leisure time. If you find you do not have enough time to complete the tasks below, check out the service offerings aThe Home Custodians and we will gladly complete them on your behalf.

Our top MAY HOME MAINTENANCE TASKS as follows:

  1. Take the lawnmower in for a tune-up and sharpen the blades.
  2. Check all shrubs and trees for winter damage and prune as appropriate.
  3. Clean up winter debris from the planting beds and add compost or mulch where appropriate.
  4. Visually check your roof shingles for damage (cracked, buckled, loose or missing granules) and overgrown trees when standing on the ground.
  5. Check for cracks, holes, peeling paint, mildew or damage around your foundation and walls (interior and exterior).
  6. Have your gutters and downspouts checked for debris or repair.
  7. Fill low lying areas in your yard with soil to ensure proper water drainage and eliminate water collection pools where insects can breed.
  8. Check and fix asphalt driveways, cement walkways, paths and stairs for heaving, cracks and wrinkles to reduce tripping hazards.
  9. Check the outdoor faucets for winter damage. Bring out and hook up the garden hoses.
  10. Schedule an HVAC contractor to service the air conditioner.
  11. Check and repair/replace all window screens.
  12. Check and repair the eaves, siding and trim for rotting wood or peeling paint.
  13. Clean out winter debris from around the Air Conditioner compressor to provide sufficient air flow.
