Library Implements Summer Reading Programs

Two programs have been established, each geared towards a different age bracket.

If a vacation to Disney World is not in the cards this summer, your child may be able to find adventure yet with a trip to "Treasure Island" or "Peter Pan's" Neverland via the Summer Reading Club at the Needham Public Library.

Starting Thursday, June 17 parents can sign up their children for two summer reading programs, "Read to Me" and "Independent Readers," respectively.

"Read to Me" is geared for ages 3-6 and entails parents, family members and caregiver reading aloud content. "Independent Readers," meanwhile, is the 2010 Summer Reading Book Club for students in grades K-6.

According to Elaine Garnache of the Children's Room, both programs will offer participants a small prize for every three hours recorded on their reading logs. 18 hours of reading will complete a program and students receive a collector's bag and reading certificate upon completion.

Registration runs from June 17 to July 30 and can be completed by visiting the Children's Room or calling 781-455-7559 x204.
