Longtime Needham Resident Retires From Air Force

Joseph Zimmerman retired after 33 years with the Air Force.

NEEDHAM, MA — A long-time Needham resident was honored after retiring from over 30 years of service in the Air Force. Joseph Zimmerman retired from the Air Force on Friday and had American Flags flown in several places of significance to him.

Zimmerman entered government service with the Air Force in May 1987 as a Contract Specialist at Hanscom Air Force Base, Massachusetts. Throughout his career, Zimmerman held several contracting positions shaping and developing acquisition strategies, creating sound business arrangements and executing acquisition programs in support of warfighter needs.

Zimmerman had a 33-year career with the Air Force.

As part of his retirement, Zimmerman asked that the American Flag be flown at areas of significance to him. In addition to Fenway Park and Gillette Stadium, Zimmerman requested the flag fly at Needham Town Hall.
