Needam Hosts Girls Soccer Jamboree

Rockets have to settle for ties in three straight games.

Soccer was back in Needham this week as the girls' squad participated in a preseason jamboree Monday afternoon at DeFazio Field.

Needham matched up against top teams in the state with Dedham, Marshfield and Acton-Boxborough all coming to town for what were primarily tryout games for the players.

"We treated each half like its own game," said Needham coach Carl Tarabelli. "Our veteran players played the first half of each game, and we brought the younger girls in for the second half and they each played great."

The Rockets led each game at halftime but finished with draws in all three.

"The scores are irrelevant," Tarabelli said. "I was really just trying to evaluate the players today."

30 girls were evaluated in the varsity pool, including 10 freshmen.

The Rockets have two more scrimmages scheduled, including one at 3:45 p.m. Thursday against Winchester, before they open up the season against Brookline at 3:45 p.m. on September 10th.
