Needham-based TripAdvisor Gets OK to Book Cuba Trips

The travel website will soon offer services for people traveling to Cuba.

NEEDHAM, MA — Need to travel to Cuba? Soon, TripAdvisor will be able to help you with that.

The Needham-based company announced Friday that they have received a license from the U.S. Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control to facilitate travel bookings to Cuba for travelers from the U.S. and outside the U.S., WCVB reported.

According to federal regulations, travelers can head to Cuba for 12 reasons including cultural, educational, business and family visits. Vacations are not on the list.

The company expects to start offering booking options within a couple of months, spokesman Brian Hoyt said. Services that will be offered include bookings for flights, hotels, short-term home rentals and visits to cultural attractions.

The two countries announced in December 2014 that they were restoring diplomatic ties.
