Needham Community Council CAP Program Volunteer Opportunity

2018-19 School Year

Each year, Needham CAP volunteers present approximately 60 workshops in first, third and fifth grade classrooms in the Needham elementary schools. Working in teams of three, volunteers teach children that they have the right to be Safe, Strong and Free with their friends and peers, when they meet adult strangers, and with those who are trusted to take care of them. Using simple and age-appropriate language and role plays, volunteer leaders address bullying, stranger safety, and sexual assault by known persons with the students.

We are looking for community members who are interested in becoming trained prevention specialists. CAP volunteers need no previous experience, and include parents of preschool and school-aged children, empty nesters, professionals and retirees who are interested in child safety. We are looking for people who can make a one school year commitment (October –May), and are available to contribute four –six hours per month during the school day. Continuing Education Credits are available for MSW’s. The next training begins on October 28th.
