Needham Doctor Lands in Hot Water Following Anti-Gay Remarks

A Needham urologist at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center recently had has privileges to practice medicine revoked after he allegedly made anti-gay comments on the hospital’s internal communication network.
Dr. Paul Church will appeal the hospital’s disciplinary actions on July 29, according to the Boston Business Journal. Church’s attorney, Richard Mast, says the incident has only hindered his client from exercising his religious beliefs.
Church operates out of Needham’s Urology Practice Associates. According to Mast, Church believes homosexual activities “pose a significant risk to public health.”

The doctor’s comments were posted to a hospital site. Church was later told to cease communication with the hospital staff regarding his homosexual views.
The hospital’s board of directors must approve the decision to revoke Church’s right to practice before it is finalized, Mast says.

The first to report Church’s revocation was Mass Resistance, an online site advocating a “pro-family” point of view.
