Needham Food Truck Policy Moving Forward

The board is expected to vote on the policy mid-August.

NEEDHAM, MA — All signs are pointing in a positive direction when it comes to the town’s proposed food truck regulations.

The selectmen recently held a hearing for the proposal, which would allow food trucks at the town fields and parks and at Needham Crossing. Selectman Daniel Matthews, who has been working on the regulations, said the policy is a step forward.

As it stands, food trucks in the downtown area or any part of town that has a large contingency of restaurants would not be allowed. Greg Reibman, president of the Newton-Needham Regional Chamber, said the board should address downtown after construction is complete.

David DiCicco of the parks and recreation commission told the board that many of his board’s questions have been answered by the draft policy.

“I’ve been your biggest critic when you weren't doing anything so I have to say I am very excited that there is progress. I think the fee structure you’ve put in is great. I’m excited with the things you've put in for the field,” resident Doug Fox said. “I know downtown is out of the picture, just please do something downtown, it’s what people want.”
