NEEDHAM, MA — The town of Needham was awarded an additional $186,000 in state funding to go toward road and bridge repairs, Gov. Charlie Baker's office announced Wednesday.

The funding was part of a $40 million supplemental budget Baker signed for fiscal year 2019, according to a statement from the Massachusetts Department of Transportation. This makes Needham's total fiscal year road/bridge repair budget roughly $1.1 million.

“We are pleased to provide this additional transportation funding for local projects in cities and towns across the Commonwealth,” Baker said in a press release. “This funding represents our continued commitment to supporting communities as they address the maintenance and modernization of local roads, which are a critical part of the Commonwealth’s transportation network.”

Additional funds were added to the current budget, so that towns can start projects as soon as possible, Lieutentant Gov. Karyn Polito said.

“This support will allow community leaders to take action immediately so that projects are ‘shovel ready’ for the spring construction season,” she said.
