Needham Goes Purple This June
The initiative, Needham Goes Purple, is part of a larger Alzheimer's Association initiative called 'The Longest Day.'

From Alzheimer’s Association: Each year in June, a dedicated group of Needham residents paint the town purple to raise funds and awareness to advance Alzheimer’s Association care, support and research programs.
The initiative, Needham Goes Purple, is part of a larger Alzheimer’s Association initiative called The Longest Day®. For The Longest Day, participants around the country choose activities, host events or mobilize an entire community to ignite a global conversation about Alzheimer’s disease, the brain and other dementias as part of Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month® in June.
“This year marks the fourth annual Needham Goes Purple event,” shares Suzanne Lissy, Needham resident and co-chair of the town initiative. “Each year we’ve seen a huge increase in the support from local businesses. Last year we raised over $27,000 from local businesses as well as from our lemonade stands.”

This year, Needham Goes Purple will be holding events from June 1 through June 16. On Saturday, June 2 Needham residents will host their lemonade stands at various locations throughout town. The Needham Goes Purple initiative is currently seeking local business for sponsorship. Sponsorship opportunities range from $100 to $1000, each level comes with a variety of ways the business will be recognized in town.
“There are so many ways for businesses to get involved,” said Lissy. “Restaurants are welcomed to create a special purple drink or food item and donate the proceeds. Gyms are encouraged to hold a class to support the cause.”
