Needham Junction Ice Cream Could Reopen After Closing In August

The stand was in business 20 years and was a popular spot for people to get an ice cream, relax, and watch the trains pass by.

NEEDHAM, MA — When the Needham Junction Ice Cream shop at the train station closed this past August an era ended. The stand was in business 20 years and was a popular spot for people to get an ice cream while they wait for the Commuter Rail, or to just relax and watch the trains pass by.

The MBTA held a lease bidding period for the vacant space but according to spokesman Joe Pesaturo, no one submitted a bid prior to the Dec. 21 deadline, the Needham Times reported. However, Pesaturo Needham Junction Ice Cream may be interested in coming back in business on a month-to-month basis, Pesaturo said. There's no guarantee the ice cream shop will come back to Needham Junction Station, and at this time, there's no timetable to get a deal done. But Dana Turransky, one of the shop's co-owners confirmed with the Needham Times that they have been in talks with the MBTA.

Needham Junction Ice Cream closed on Aug. 31 because of "unforeseen circumstances" beyond their control, the shop said on its Facebook page.
