Needham Man Receives Massachusetts Health Association Award

From Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center - Needham:Christoph L. Hoffmann, a Needham resident, member of the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital–Needham Board of Advisors, has been awarded the 2018 Trustee Excellence in Leadership Award from the Massachusetts Health & Hospital Association (MHA). Each year at the association’s annual meeting, MHA honors the significant contributions of a trustee leader whose professional achievements have been of exceptional value to the healthcare community. This year’s awards went to Mr. Hoffmann and to Sanford A. Belden, member and former Chair of the Cooley-Dickinson Health Board of Trustees.

Hoffmann has been named a BID–Needham “Advisor for Life”—his board service started in the early 1990s and continues to this day through participation on various Board committees.

“Christoph became Chair of the hospital in 2002 and remained in that role through 2007; his leadership helped transform the hospital into a fast-growing health care destination in a community setting that has kept access to high-quality care in the local area,” said John M. Fogarty, MHSA, FACHE, president and CEO, Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital–Needham, who presented the award to Hoffmann. “Christoph instills a focus on metrics and performance improvement in both quality of care and finance while guiding efforts to modernize hospital facilities. It is my honor to present him with this much-deserved recognition.”

In addition to giving time and energy over nearly thirty years of service, Christoph and his wife Susan, a long-time hospital volunteer, have also set an example with planned giving, with a focus on gastroenterology and digestive care. BID–Needham has honored the Hoffmann family by naming the Department of Gastroenterology the “Christoph and Susan Hoffmann Center for Digestive Health” in their honor.
