Needham Police: Arrest; Cash Stolen from Teacher; Bushes Ripped from Yard

The following are excerpts from the Needham police log. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Wednesday, Dec. 3

  • At 8:10 a.m., police responded to Webster Street for a report of attempted fraud.
  • At 1:40 p.m., a Needham High School teacher reported that some cash was stolen from her backpack that was left in the locker room.
  • At 1:44 p.m., police responded to Charles Court East for a report of past larceny. An unknown man stole two pieces of outgoing mail from the front lobby of this location. The packages contained computer software valued at $130.

Thursday, Dec. 4

  • At 10:10 a.m., police took a report from someone from a Hillcrest Road address. The person said that sometime in the night, one of her bushes had been ripped from the root and pushed to the ground. She said this was an ongoing issue.
  • At 10:15 a.m., police took a report from a person walking in to the station. This Woodledge Road resident said that he thinks his social security number might have been compromised.
  • At 12:20 p.m., police responded to Family Federal Savings Bank for a report of fraud.
  • At 3:20 p.m., police pulled a car over on Chestnut Street. The driver, a 28-year-old, Austin Avelar, from Quincy, was driving with an expired license and was arrested for unlicensed operation. Austin Avelar, 28, 3 Schlager Ave., Quincy, arrested and charged with unlicensed operation
