Needham Police Caught Up In Swatting Incident

NEEDHAM, MA — Police in Needham say they have become the victims of a hoax. Officers were in the area around Sachem Road Monday after receiving a report of an armed and barricaded suspect. Finding nothing at the scene to indicate there was a problem, police quickly realized a false report had been filed and they were caught up in a swatting incident.

Swatting is when someone intentionally deceives an emergency service with false information in order to trigger a large-scale response to an address.

Police say there is no danger to anyone in the area and the matter is under investigation.
