Needham Police Log: Eversource Scam Hits Needham, Intoxicated Man at Memorial Park, and More
The following is from the Needham Police Log: Arrests and charges mentioned don't imply conviction.

October 27
2:45 p.m. - An officer on patrol in the area of Highland Avenue and Morton Street observed a motor vehicle failing to display an inspection sticker. After further investigation, it was determined that the operator of the vehicle was attaching plates, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, and operating an unregistered motor vehicle. The operator, a 21-year-old Newton man, was cited and will be summoned to court for the above offenses. The vehicle was then towed from the scene.
October 28
12:45 p.m. - An officer was dispatched to the Dunkin Donuts located at 399 Great Plain Ave. The reporting person stated that he received a phone call from someone claiming to be from Eversource, stating his bill was overdue and that someone from the company was there to shut the power off. He stated that there was an Eversource truck was parked outside when the person called. The caller told him he had to pay his bill via gift cards at Rite Aid, located at 1329 Hyde Park Ave. in Hyde Park. The matter is under investigation.

2:00 p.m. - An officer was dispatched to Pannellas on Central Ave for a report of suspicious telephone calls. A caller, claiming to be from Eversource, stated that the electric bill was past due and the electricity would be shut off at 2:30 p.m. if the bill wasn't paid. The caller wanted the business owner to pay $2,500 in pre-paid gift cards to bring the account current. The owner knew the account was in fact current, and eventually called Eversource and learned that this is an ongoing scam. No financial information was compromised.
3:00 p.m. - An Officer responded to the Great Plain Ave Mobil station for a report of damage to a sign by a truck. The truck operator was identified and it was agreed upon by both parties to take care of the incident between themselves.

4:00 p.m. - An officer responded to Dedham Avenue by Webster Street for a two-vehicle property damage crash. No occupants were injured. One of the operators had a revoked license. That operator, a 29-year-old Abington man, will be summonsed to Dedham District Court for operating with a revoked license.
9:00 p.m. - Officers responded to a report of a possibly intoxicated male party last seen in the area of Memorial Park. Officers observed a male party matching the description on the park field adjacent to the gazebo. They observed the male party, stumbling and holding onto fence posts and railings in order to steady himself. The 17-year-old Needham male was taken into protective custody and transported to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital - Needham.
