Needham Police Log: Hitchhiker Charged with Bike Theft, Stolen Tomatoes, and More
The following is from the Needham Police Log. Arrests and charges mentioned don't imply conviction.

July 12
2:15 p.m. - During a traffic stop on Great Plain Avenue, a 47-year-old Needham male received a citation for operating with a suspended license. He will be summoned to Dedham District Court for that charge. A licensed operator drove the vehicle from the scene.

12:51 a.m. - An officer observed a vehicle stop on B Street, by the Residence Inn. Upon further investigation, the officer discovered that the vehicle was a livery service, and a female passenger was highly intoxicated. A 25-year-old Everett woman was placed into protective custody.
A resident of Elder Road reported that someone had stolen a set of golf clubs from his garage, possibly sometime overnight.

3:15 pm, Officers responded to Needham Wine and Spirits on Highland Avenue for a report of an intoxicated woman who had been refused service. The party, a 51-year-old Needham resident, was determined to be under the influence of an intoxicating alcoholic beverage. As a result, she was placed into protective custody for her own safety.
5:30 p.m. - An officer responded to a Mills Road residence for a vandalism report. The reporting person stated that they believe someone is going in their yard and stealing their tomatoes at night. They were advised that the police department would make extra checks of the area.
5:30 p.m. - An officer was dispatched to a residence on Parkinson Street for a report of an attempted break-in. There was a broken window. Nothing was reported missing from the house.
5:30 p.m. - An officer observed a person hitchhiking on Dedham Avenue which was peculiar but they were responding to a possible break-in. Later, the officer observed the same person on a bike which was more suspicious. The officer encountered the 68-year-old Framingham man who admitted to stealing the bike from a Howland Road residence. Charges for larceny are being sought at Dedham District Court.
