Needham Police Log: Leaving the Scene of a Crash, Fraud and More

The following is from the Needham Police Log. Arrests and charges mentioned don't imply conviction.

May 15

An officer noticed some motor vehicle debris and a registration plate on the ground next to a telephone pole in Needham Cemetery across from 200 Parrish Rd. It was determined that the crash was never reported. As a result, a 22-year-old male from Needham will be charged with leaving the scene of a property damage crash and a marked lanes violation.

6:10 p.m. - A traffic stop was made for a rejected inspection sticker. As a result, a 25-year-old female from Wakefield was summonsed to court for operating a motor vehicle after suspension.

8:40 p.m. - An officer was dispatched to a Melrose Avenue address to take a report of a fraud. After an investigation, it was determined that a credit card account was opened in the resident’s name without authorization and merchandise was charged. The resident contacted the credit card company and had the account closed and was advised to file a police report.

A Holland Terrace resident entered the police station to file a fraud report. The resident stated that she received a call from a man identifying himself an IRS employee and stated that she owed back taxes. He stated for her to avoid a criminal complaint being filed, she had to pay the back taxes within 1/2 hour. Becoming nervous, she followed the instructions and purchased iTunes gift cards and read the caller on the phone the codes on the back of the cards. After the transactions, realizing that this may have been fraudulent, she attempted to deactivate the cards but was only successful in deactivating one card. The incident is under investigation.

May 19

10:17 a.m. - An officer responded to a Woodworth Road address for a parking complaint. The outcome of the incident was that the vehicle was trespass towed from the scene by the resident.

5:00 p.m. - An officer responded to a Webster Street address for a report of an ongoing civil dispute between the residents and another citizen regarding property being stored at their home. All parties involved were spoken with and an arrangement was reached without issue.
