Needham Police Log: OUI, Stolen Company Checks, and More

The following is from the Needham Police Log. Arrests and charges mentioned don't imply conviction.

July 11

1:00 pm - An officer observed a motor vehicle traveling north on Highland Avenue with defective brake lights and initiated a traffic stop. After further investigation, it was determined that the registration to the vehicle was revoked due to insurance. Subsequently, a 21-year-old Taunton female will be charged with operating a motor vehicle with a revoked registration and defective tail lights. The motor vehicle was towed from the scene.

An employee of a Highland Avenue company reported that someone had written four fraudulent checks in the company’s name and cashed them. Needham police are investigating.

2:00 pm - An officer was dispatched to a Prince Street residence for a report of a rear door alarm. Upon checking the residence, the officer observed a broken rear window and pry marks to the rear door. A check of the interior of the home revealed that nothing had been disturbed. The homeowner did not believe anything was missing from the residence.

5:45 p.m - An officer responded to a Gilbert Road address for a report of vandalism to a motor vehicle. The reporting party told police that his rear window was smashed in at approximately 3:00 p.m. After further speaking with the victim, he requested for an official police report for insurance purposes.

9:15 p.m. - An officer initiated a motor vehicle stop on a vehicle that was travelling in the wrong direction on Highland Avenue over Route 128. The officer was working an overnight detail in a construction at the time of traffic stop. It was determined that the operator, Laurence Ruane, 55, of Rockland, was operating under the influence of alcohol. He was also charged with having an open container of liquor in a motor vehicle and for a marked lanes violation.
