Needham Police Log: Stolen Bike, Smashed Mailbox, and More

The following is from the Needham Police Log. Arrests and charges mentioned don't imply conviction.

December 29

4:45 p.m. - An officer was dispatched to a Lantern Lane residence for a report of a mailbox struck by a motor vehicle in the past. No information was available as to who might have struck the mailbox and the owner will be moving it back from the roadside to prevent a similar event from happening again.

A Needham resident came into the police station to report that his bike was stolen. He locked it up on Dec. 23 and when he returned a few days later the bike was not there.

December 30

2:00 p.m. - Officers responded to Warren at School Streets on report of a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle. The 18-year-old operator was cited for failure to yield for a pedestrian. A 77-year-old male was transported to Beth Israel Deaconess Needham with minor injuries.

5:50 p.m. - An officer responded to Beth Israel Deaconess Needham for a report of a stolen wallet. The victim reported that at some point while he was there, some personal items including a wallet went missing and were believed stolen. He was advised to cancel any credit or debit cards that were inside the wallet and to alert the credit bureaus to place an alert on his account. The hospital was alerted and will be conducting their own investigation. There are no suspects at this time, the incident remains open.

7:10 p.m. - An Officer responded to the area of Great Plain Avenue and Marshall Street for a report of a suspicious party. Party was placed into protective custody due to the use of narcotics and transported to Beth Israel Deaconess Needham.

January 1

1:00 a.m. - An officer was dispatched to a Webster Street address for a report of a party attempting to open a door at the residence. After investigation it was determined that the suspect, a 19-year-old Needham man, was intoxicated and he was placed into protective custody, transported and release to the custody of his parents.

9:15 p.m. - An officer observed a vehicle parked in a parking lot in the area of 100 Cabot St. Following an investigation a 19-year-old Needham man was issued civil citation for having an open container of marijuana.
