Needham Police Log: Stolen Tomatoes, Protective Custody, and More

July 23
5:20 a.m. - Officers responded to a disturbance in the area of Yurik Road. A short while later, an intoxicated 49-year-old Winthrop male was located in the Needham Square area and placed into protective custody.
8:40 a.m. - A worker at a Birds Hill area service station reported that the “super unleaded” and “regular unleaded” signs were stolen from the gas pricing sign in front of the station.

July 24
2:15 a.m. - An officer encountered an intoxicated male party walking along Wilshire Park. After determining that he was too intoxicated to care for himself, the 52-year-old Needham man was placed into protective custody, and subsequently released into the care of a family member.

July 25
2:00 a.m. - An officer encountered a suspicious vehicle in the Needham High School parking lot and stopped the vehicle on Admiral Gracy Drive. A check of the operator's driver's license revealed that he had a suspended license. The 19-year-old Needham man will be summonsed to Dedham District Court for operating with a suspended license.
July 26
9:30 a.m. - An officer in the area of Highland Second Avenue observed a Blue Nissan that didn’t display a front registration plate. The officer stopped the vehicle on the on ramp to Route 128 South. While speaking to the operator it was later determined that his license was expired. The operator, a 29-year-old Boston male, was cited and charged for a number plate violation and operating a motor vehicle with an expired license. The operator was handed a citation and the vehicle was then towed from the scene.
1:30 p.m. - An officer observed a vehicle with no working brake lights and stopped it on Highland Avenue near Oakland Avenue. The operator reported that she did not have a license. The operator, a 29-year-old woman Revere, received a summons for unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and defective equipment.
5:00 p.m. - An officer responded to a Hemlock Street address for the report of stolen tomatoes. The reporting party stated that they believe someone has been stealing their tomatoes off the plant in the night.
