Needham Promoting Local Businesses With 'Sidewalk Sale'

NEEDHAM, MA — Needham merchants will kick off the fall by bringing back a once-popular tradition, a sidewalk sale. Fifteen local businesses signed up for the sidewalk sale, which is being supported by the Newton-Needham Chamber of Commerce. The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7 in downtown Needham.

The store owners banded together to organize the sale with the hopes of spreading the word that Needham has become "a thriving destination to dine and shop," said Karen Loughery, co-owner of Proud Mary, one of the businesses that helped organize the event.

"Events like the sidewalk sale are meant to show community support for our local businesses," Select Board chair John Bulian said. "The one way we can enhance our town center is for people to patronize the locally owned businesses."
