Needham: Stop Flushing "Disposable" Wipes

NEEDHAM, MA — Needham is warning residents to stop flushing "disposable" wipes down the toilet in an effort to spare the town's department of public works a stinky situation. The wipe-issue has led to several clogged and blocked sewer pumps in town.

The town posted a PSA on its Facebook page with a photo of a clogged sewer pump.

"These wipes take much longer to break down than toilet paper or tissue and clog our sewer pumps," the post reads.

When the pipes or sewer pumps are clogged, Needham DPW crews have to shut down the system to unclog the pipe. The photo accompanying the post was from a pump on Alden Road. The town specified that the only things that should be flushed are toilet paper tissue.
