NHS swimming: Girls defeat Norwood 100-55
Rocket swimmers handily defeat Norwood after a gutsy meet against last year's league champions Framingham in which the NHS girls held to a tie to the very last race only to lose by 2 points.
Following the Sept. 28 squeaker of a loss to last year’s league champions Framingham, 92-94 , the Needham High School girls’ swam to victory against Norwood 100-55, Oct. 1. The Rockets are now 4-1 in league competition.
The Rocket loss to Framingham was so close that the score see-sawed back and forth in the last three events, with the race official ratcheting the tension up for swimmers and crowd by announcing the score before starting each event. Needham girls would stroke back to a tie and Framingham would jump ahead by just 2 points in the end.
Sophomore Claire Hadelman was the leading Needham scorer against Framingham, taking first place in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:06 and the 500-yard freestyle with 5:42. And Rocket divers performed well against a very sharp Framingham team with senior Sally Doherty placing third and freshman Olivia Curran fourth.
