North Hill Hosts Lifestyle Event

Forget any ideas you have about senior living communities and bingo. What brought 400 active adults to on Wednesday, Nov. 9 was a lifestyle event that celebrated the launch of the community’s new project, .

Attendees were treated to live musical performances from A Far Cry and the Boston Conservatory of Music as well as live cooking demos in the Skyway Café bar. Hundreds toured newly redesigned apartments and enjoyed gourmet food prepared by North Hill chefs. Wine and tasting tips were provided by The Urban Grape and J. Ross Wines, two of the more than 20 community partners offering lifestyle tips at booths scattered throughout the building.

“The atmosphere was wonderful,” North Hill CEO Kevin Burke said. “It was a terrific way to launch Project True North, the largest initiative in our history.”

The outpouring exceeded expectations—and the number of RSVPs—causing a brief traffic jam on Central Avenue for the first time in memory. Valets at the top of the hill were in constant motion parking cars. Burke expressed his appreciation for the Needham police, who helped direct traffic. He noted the team is already planning new strategies for the next True North event.

Six attendees won prizes provided by True North community partners. Their hometowns reflect the wide spread interest in what North Hill is calling “the next evolution in senior living”:

• Elizabeth Cook of Boston was the winner of a $250 gift certificate to Winston Flowers;
• Ruth Moses of Westwood won a collection of books from New England Mobile Book Fair;
• Barbara Abramowitz of Waban won a trip to either Cairo, Siena, Athens or China from AuthentiCity;
• Ann O'Sullivan of Wellesley won two tickets to a dinner/lecture with Tom Brokaw from Project True North;
• Marietta Bague of Milton will host an in-home wine tasting party for 20 courtesy of The Urban Grape;
• Mukund & Vasant Thacker of Belmont won a collection of books by authors featured in the Boston Speaker Series in 2011 and 2012; and
• Marcia Mather of Needham took home a $250 gift certificate courtesy of .
