A walk-in to the Needham police station reported on Aug. 3 that she had been the victim of fraud.
The party stated that she had responded to several postings on Craigslist in an attempt to set up job interviews. In response to these postings, the party said that she began receiving checks in various amounts from an unnamed company.
Needham police contacted the company in question and provided an account number from one of the checks to an account manager on the other line. The manager informed police that the account number was fraudulent and that they were aware of their checks being used in several attempted frauds through Craigslist. The manager also related that the issue was before their attorneys and that they have caught all of the fraudulent checks so far, thus not losing any money.
