Police Log: Disturbances in Center of Town

Parties get restless in Needham parking lots

Perhaps it was the heat that had temperatures at a boiling point, but a few different people in town last week were acting in an unsportsmanlike way, according to police reports.

On May 28 police were asked to report to the parking lot of 7-Eleven around 2:04 p.m. Upon arriving at the scene, Officer David Eldridge spoke with the reporting party who told him that she was cut off while driving and run off the road.

The woman stated that a male party, around 60-65 years old, had pulled onto Hunnewell St. in front of her car. The woman reportedly asked the man to back his car up so that she could be on her way, but he continued to pull up and block the vehicle. As the man lined his car window up with the reporting party's, he levied a couple of offensive terms at her and then fled the scene.

The woman reported the man's license plate to police, but a search came back with no record found.

In a separate incident, taking place around four hours later, Needham officers were dispatched to the parking lot of Walgreens. A man told police that he was driving down May St. and was in front of a Porsche Cayenne. The driver of the Porsche reportedly leaned on his horn, so the reporting party gave him an obscene gesture.

The first man said that when he arrived at Walgreens, he got out of the car, and was confronted and shoved by the Porsche driver. As the man attempted to walk away and enter the store, the Porsche driver prevented him from doing so, even after the reporting party told him that he was trying to "pick up prescriptions for his elderly parents."

The reporting party finally entered Walgreens and asked the store manager to call the police.

As Officer Michael Schlittler entered the store, a woman pulled him side and asked if he was investigating the fight that took place outside. Schlittler answered that he was and the woman stated that she saw what happened, detailing that the reporting party began yelling at the Porsche driver when the Porsche driver shoved him.  After arguing back and forth, the woman said, the second man entered the store.

Officer Schlittler caught up with the second man, or Porsche driver, and asked for his side of things. He stated that the car in front of him had been stopped at the stop sign at Parish and Nehoiden "for a long time." After waiting, the man honked his horn and was met with an obscene gesture from the other operator.

The Porsche driver reported that he then drove to Walgreens and was confronted by the man in the parking lot. He said that the man shoved him and called him a derogatory word, prompting him to shove back. The Porsche driver also stated that the other man grabbed a prescription from his hand, crumpled it up and threw it on the ground.

Police advised both parties to go to Dedham District Court if they wanted to pursue charges of assault and battery.
