Police Log: Driver Strikes Cyclist on Great Plain Ave.

The driver stated that she did not see the biker as he crossed the road.

Police were dispatched to the area of Great Plain Ave. and Warren St. for a report of a vehicle striking a bicyclist.

Upon arrival, police found that the cyclist was lying on the ground and being attended to by the driver of the vehicle in question. The cyclist stated that he was riding on Great Plain on the shoulder of the roadway toward Dedham Ave. He then saw a car exiting Warren St. as he began crossing the road.

The cyclist related that when he realized the driver did not see him, he attempted to swerve out of the way, but was struck by the vehicle.

The driver told officers that she was crossing Great Plain and did not see the biker. Officer Michael Tetrault related in his report that a sun glare was present, but it "did not appear that it would have any effect on the accident."

The driver was issued a citation for failing to stop for a bicycle.
