Police Log: Man Upset over BP Oil Spill Refuses to Leave WCVB Studios

Police were called to WCVB-TV Channel 5 studios on June 14 for a report of a man refusing to leave the building's lobby.

Upon arrival, police spoke with the man, who was sitting in the lobby. According to Needham Police, officers asked the man to step outside to talk so that he would "not disturb the operations of Channel 5."

The stepped outside with police and stated that he wanted to speak with a reporter regarding the BP oil spill. He said that he had ideas on how to "fix the oil leak problem," but that no one would listen to him. Speaking with a WCVB reporter, he said, would help him get the word out. Needham PD noted that the man was "extremely cooperative" during the exchange they had with him.

Police soon after spoke with a producer for Newscenter 5, who told police that he advised the party in question that he would contact the facilities manager regarding the incident. The producer then gave reporting Officer Michael Tetrault information to pass onto the upset party regarding leaving comments and concerns on BP's website.

Needham Police escorted the first man off of WCVB property and informed him that property management did not want him to return. Officer Tetrault also told the man that, should he feel the need to contact the news station, he should make an appointment by telephone.

Before the man left the property, he told Tetrault that he was going to head to Fox-25's television station in Dedham to speak with one of their reporters. Due to these comments, Tetrault said that he contacted Dedham PD to let them know that the man may be coming their way.
