Police Log: Suspicious Noises Coming from Basement
The caller reported hearing banging and a voice in basement.
A caller reported to police on July 21 that she heard a suspicious noise emanating from her basement around 3:40 a.m. She stated that she could hear "banging and a voice," according to reports.
Police reported to the Great Plain Ave. address and, while en route, were told by dispatch that the reporting party had called back to say that a light was on in the basement and that she could again hear the voice.
Upon arrival, police noted that the basement light was on, but they could not see anything unusual when they looked through a basement window. Officer Richard Evans noted that the exterior door leading into the basement was open "approximately a half inch" and that there was no sign of forced entry.

Police walked into the unfinished basement and looked around. As they walked through the space, motion-activated lights were illuminated and everything appeared in order, with the exception of a laundry basket that had been toppled. The reporting party would confirm that she had left the basket in this state.
Officers spoke with the reporting party again and she stated that she was in bed earlier when she woke up to the sound of a male's voice, followed by loud banging sounds. She believes that the sounds were coming from the basement.

The woman told police that the voice was "very low" and sounded like one person muttering to himself. She also said that the outside door should have been locked. Another party on the scene stated that work had been done on the home recently and that workers had been left along in the house for several hours at a time, perhaps insinuating a connection with the voice heard in the basement.
