Police Log: Woman Charged After Not Stopping for Pedestrians
An adult male and a small child were attempting to cross Highland Ave.
At approximately 3:48 p.m. on July 23, Officer Steven Kelly observed two subjects, an adult male and a young child, attempting to cross Highland Ave. westbound at a crosswalk. Officer Kelly notes that the crosswalk is "clearly visible with paint markings" and that one car had already stopped for them.
A Toyota Prius, meanwhile, was traveling in the opposite direction as the two parties were looking to cross. The second vehicle was going about 25 MPH, according to Kelly's estimates, and failed to slow or stop for the parties trying to cross.
Kelly activated his vehicle's emergency lights and pulled over the Prius. Kelly told the driver, a 56-year-old Newton woman, that he pulled her over for failing to stop at a crosswalk when she "could have safely stopped for them."

The woman told Kelly that she did not have her license in her possession. Kelly ran the registration and found that the woman's vehicle was active, but that her driver's license had expired. He charged the woman with operating with an expired license and failing to stop for a pedestrian in a crosswalk.
