Phone Theft

A walk-in party reported on Sept. 26 at 12:21 a.m. that she and her husband had been eating dinner with friends when she realized that her phone was missing.

The woman reported that she had been at Spiga Italiana and that she and her party were the last to leave the restaurant that night. Upon arriving at home, the woman realized that her iPhone 4, which she had purchased two months prior, was missing. The last place they had been, she said, was at the restaurant.

The woman and her husband drove back to the restaurant and told the manager about the problem. He allowed them to look around for the phone, but they could not find anything.

The woman told police that she used her computer to send two separate messages to the phone, the first reading "this phone is locked," with the second announcing "please contact the Needham Police if you find this phone – reward offered."

The woman told police that she does not wish to press charges against whoever took the phone; she would simply like it back.

Car Strikes Utility Pole

Police were dispatched to the area of Beth Israel Deaconess Health Center at 1:22 a.m. on Sept. 26 for a report of a motor vehicle striking a utility pole. Officers observed a black Mercedes that had driven into the pole and snapped it at its base. The pole was leaning over the street and had ripped the electric wires from the adjacent pole.

The vehicle operator, at the time of officer arrival, was in the parking lot chasing after his dog. He told police that he had been traveling on Second Ave. when he had to restrain his dog, who had jumped within the car. The driver stated that this action caused him to veer into the pole.

The man was cited for a marked lanes violation and impeded operation of a vehicle. NSTAR and Verizon replaced the pole.

Blackberry Stolen from Car

A party reported on Sept. 26 at 7:43 p.m. that sometime overnight someone had broken into his car, which was parked on Kimball St. The man said that several items, including a Blackberry phone and some cash, had been stolen.

The man stated that there were no signs of forced entry, but that he remembered hearing a dog barking loudly around the time of 5:30 that morning. He noted that this may have been the time of the break-in.
