Police Reports: Needham Officer Tracks Down Owner of Lost Ring

A Needham police officer tracked down the owner of an inscribed ring that was accidentally left at the ballot box on March 6 with the help from a local jeweler.
A poll worker handed over the ring on Tuesday, March 6 after a voter at left it behind. Because the inscription was difficult to read, the officer brought the ring to a Needham jeweler to have it looked at professionally, according to the reports.
Once the officer knew the initials, he went to the town clerk’s office and cross-referenced the initials with the roster of voters. He was then able to contact the ring’s owner and return it, according to reports.

Four-year-old Child Riding Without Car Seat
Police stopped a vehicle on Tuesday, March 6 after observing a young child sitting in on his mother’s lap in the passenger seat.

The incident occurred around 10 p.m. near the intersection of Sachem and Hunting roads. The child was four years old, and the vehicle did not have a child’s car seat, according tos reports. A seat was brought to the scene from police headquarters, to be returned later.
The driver, the child’s father, was cited for not having a child properly restrained in a motor vehicle, according to reports.
Man Arrested at Sheraton Hotel
A 29-year-old man with no current address was arrested on Wednesday, March 7 after loitering around the in Needham.
Police responded to the hotel around 12:12 a.m. for the report of a suspicious man. After an investigation, police arrested the man for larceny from a building and trespassing. He was also cited for possession of one ounce or less of marijuana, according to reports.
Driver Cited For Driving Without a Valid License
A 24-year-old Worcester woman is being summonsed to court for unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle after she was stopped on Highland Avenue near Gould Street on Wednesday, March 7 for having expired registration.
The driver, who was not the registered owner, was unlicensed, according to reports. The registered owner was also cited.
Trumpet Stolen at Pollard
A student reported on Wednesday, March 7 that her trumpet had been stolen sometime in February. The trumpet had been left unattended near the student’s locker at the time of the theft, according to reports. The matter is under investigation.
Town Vehicle Involved in Crash
Police responded to a property damage crash involving a town vehicle at the intersection of Hillside and Hunnewell streets on Tuesday, March 6. The crash occurred around 7:40 p.m. Damage was minor, and no injuries were reported. The driver was not cited.
Local Man Driving on Florida License
A Needham man was cited for multiple traffic violations after being stopped at Chestnut and School streets for having an expired registration sticker.
The vehicle’s registration was expired, and the operator, a 50-year-old Needham man, was found to be driving on his Florida license; his license to drive in Massachusetts was expired.
The vehicle was towed. The driver is being summonsed to court for unlicensed operation and operating an unregistered motor vehicle.
