Police Reports: Woman Receives Fake Ransom Call

The following information was supplied by the Needham Police Department. Any charges mentioned do not indicate a conviction.

A Framingham woman called police from a Reservoir Street business after she received a phone call from a person in Florida claiming to have kidnapped her brother and demanding a ransom.

The woman was able to get a hold of her brother after the phone call and determined that the call was a hoax "to acquire funds through deception," according to police reports.

Woman Injured in Two-Vehicle Crash
A Chicopee woman suffered minor head injuries in a two-vehicle crash in Needham on Wednesday, May 9.

Police were called to an accident at Central Avenue and Carleton Drive at around 3:29 p.m. One person, a 22-year-old woman from Chicopee, was transported to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Needham for minor head injuries sustained in the crash.

One operator was cited for failure to yield the right of way.

Hydraulic Ram Stolen
An Ardmore Road resident reported on Wednesday, May 9 that his brother stole a hydraulic ram from him.

Drivers Injured in Crash
Two individuals were transported to the hospital after they were involved in a two-vehicle crash at Great Plain Avenue and Chestnut Street on Wednesday, May 15. The crash occurred at around 6:16 p.m.

Needham Fire Department paramedics transported both drivers to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Needham.

One of the drivers, a Franklin resident, was cited for failure to stop at a red light.

Newton Woman Charged with Shoplifting
A 61-year-old Newton woman was charged with shoplifting from on Wednesday, May 9. She will be summonsed to Dedham District Court on the charge.

Vehicle Struck in Dunkin’ Donuts Lot
A Westwood woman reported on Thursday, May 10 that her vehicle was hit while it was parked in the lot at on Chestnut Street. The vehicle that struck it left the scene, but a witness was able to write down the license plate number. Police are investigating.
