Proposed Town Budget Includes 7.6 Percent Increase

NEEDHAM, MA — Full-day kindergarten, building renovations, and classroom expansion are just some of the projects that are included in the proposed $163 million general fund budget for fiscal year 2018.

The figure is a 7.6 increase over this year's budget, according to the Needham Times. The total operating budget comes in at $152 million, a 5.8 percent increase over this year.

Town Manager Kate Fitzpatrick says the proposed budget would allow the town to address a needed increase in public safety staffing, the implementation of full-day kindergarten, the renovation or reconstruction of the public safety building and fire station 2, and classroom expansion at Needham High School.

Included in the budget is a proposed $68 million budget for the Needham Public Schools.

Town Meeting will vote on the budget at the annual spring meeting.
